Stéphane comes from a family of wine growers from Beaujolais and has been working in vineyards since he was 14. The first Potel-Aviron wines were made in 2000 and they are vinified using traditional Burgundian techniques and raised in older barrels- no carbonic maceration here.
Made in the Burgundian fashion, Aviron's wines have earned a reputation for ageworthiness and, in my experience, really demand the wait. At the very least, bottles of his Crus that are less than three years old should get a little air time in a decanter before serving. JOSH RAYNOLDS, Vinous
Aromatics on the nose expand on the palate. A fragrant nose welcomes you along with rich black fruit and blackberry, boysenberry puree, blueberry, black raspberry compote, apricot, white blossom and red plum. The wine is joyful on the palate with black tea and forest floor lending added depth. If you are a black-tea drinker who enjoys plump red wines, this bottle is your jam. REGGIE SOLOMON
