Based in the Montlouis appellation in Loire Valley, France, Xavier Weisskopf of Rocher des Violettes farms chenin blanc from sacred old vine sites. Since taking over in 2005, he immediately converted the site over to organics re-invigorating the vineyards with a view to protect an incredible legacy of the historic vines he had just purchased. The old vineyard was called Le Rocher Violette with the old cellar nestled in the tuffeau stone.

¿There is no doubt the talent and hard work Xavier has displayed is paying off. The wines are beautiful renditions reflecting their sites and skilful winemaking. He is known locally as the |little genius¿ with a reputation for perfection in all that he does and that can be seen in every wine from the bottom up. 

From a single vineyard of 50+ year old vines on sand and silex (with pure limestone just below).

Borderies is often the first vineyard to be harvested from slightly raisened fruit. Notes of jasmine, apple pie and crushed rocks on the nose lead into a subtle sweetness without heaviness. On the palate orchard fruits join in, signing off chalky minerality and a stream of quince-like phenolics which bring balance and punctuate the flow of sweetness. This is a delectable off-dry wine which could be served with cheese or richer seafood dishes. GABRIELLE POY
