Vittorio Fiore is one of the most influential winemaking consultants in Tuscan history. Throughout the 80s, 90s and 00¿s he consulted to a dress circle of Chianti and Brunello domaines including Tenuta Caparzo, Conti Costanti and Le Macchiole to name a few. His final piece de resistance was to establish a winery where he created the masterpiece super Tuscan, Il Carbonaione. These days he is flanked by his sons Jurji and Alessandro. Their attention to detail and sensibility with both the land and wines are synergistic. This Chianti, Fiore Nero is made at the same winery as Il Carbonaione (which neighbours Querciabella) from grapes grown on the slopes of San Gimigniano. PWS

Spiced cherries, dried thyme, rose petals and licorice lead into a swelling belly of berries and twigs. Its lovely and even keeled in its delivery, a spine of tannins ribs around the core of crunchy dark berries. The bright fruit notes are tempered by a savoury edge while a powdery tail of tannins signs off the wine. This is jaw-dropping value for a Chianti.
