Nicolas Potel is the irrepressible owner of Domaine Bellene based in Beaune. The man, the myth, the legend has settled a little with time it would seem. Not that he has lost any of his restless energy but it feels like that energy is more calmly focused and channeled these days. He has always leant on the more obsessive side of things when it comes to making his wine - organics, only old vines, no additions - has always been determined to make wines of the caliber his legendary father produced. For many years now he has approached that kind of level, with the results in the glass.

This comes from two plots have been part of the Domaine since 2006 and cover 38.51 acres. They were planted in 1971 on a quality rootstock, giving them late maturity. The vine rests on a terroir close to from that of the Clos du Roi appellation, a few hundred meters away.
