CHATEAU MONTRAVEL ROUGE (MERLOT) 2017

Montravel is a standout appellation within Bergerac and was given it's own designation back in 1936. Chateau Montravel is a very small estate covering just 2.5 hectares, so small in fact their two vineyards are considered ‘private gardens'. It was taken over by Philippe and Annette Blandinieres in 2008 and they also grow olives and truffles. There are only two wines made, a white and a red and both are respectful to the traditions and nature but also carry great energy and freshness. These are very hard to find wines that resonate their surroundings beautifully. This is terrific Merlot - there is great vibrancy to the fruit and although there is a good amount of toasty oak it doesn't swamp the wine. Very pretty and lifted nose of violet and red fruits, this is delicious now but should age well for 5-10 years at least.
