Style: Rocks & Minerals
Established in 1584, centuries before the bubble was ever put into champagne, Gosset rightfully claims to be the oldest wine house in the region. Far from a staid, traditional establishment, Gosset is on the move, having relocated its production to the impressive Epernay cuverie and cellars of Chateau Malakoff, purchased from Laurent Perrier just in time for vintage 2009. In the midst of change, the house maintains an unwavering consistency, thanks largely to one man, Jean Pierre Mareigner, its talented Chef de Cave of 30 years. Under his direction, the house style of no malolactic fermentation, clean cut structure and enduring longevity remains as fine as ever. TYSON STELZER
Pale gold. Expansive, mineral driven citrus and orchard fruit scents are complemented by anise, honey and buttered toast, along with a hint of peach pit. Packs a solid punch but comes off lithe and precise, with mineral laced blood orange and quince flavours and a deeper suggestion of fresh fig. Closes on a spicy note, with repeating minerality and very good persistence. JOSH REYNOLDS
