One of the most exciting new additions is Elk Cove. This is one of the oldest estates in the region. Established by the Campbell family in a small hamlet in, what is now known as the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Planted in 1974 by Pat and Joe Campbell, the property is now in the hands of second-generation and all round good bloke Adam.
Since its inception the estate has expanded with five single sites now planted around the AVAs of Yamhill-Carlton and Chehalem Mountains, the focus entirely on estate grown fruit. Their Pinots are now widely regarded as among the very top producers in the region and by extension all of the USA.
Adam Campbells Pinot's are sophisticated and gorgeously fruited wines that marry a certain exuberance with beautifully measured structural elements. Wines that are destined for the cellar where, with time, they can blossom and unveil everything buried within.
Made with 100% estate grown fruit from all six vineyard sites: The Winery Estate, Mount Richmond, Five Mountain, Clay Court, Goodrich and Windhill. These sites are comprised of both Pommard and Dijon plant material, with multiple clones represented. Each block is fermented separately in small, temperature controlled steel tanks, hand punched down twice daily, and barreled in French oak barrels for 10 months before blending.
Bright cherry and raspberry laced with exotic sweet spice, clove and five-spice. It's so inviting on the nose slowly opening up with a lifted violet note with time in the glass. Fleshy and plush with juicy plum, boysenberry, and wild dark berry fruits wrapped gently by earthy cola and leather notes. Those firm but fine Elk Cove tannins are weaved throughout. Lovely density and weight without feeling heavy or big. A perfect combo of forward and lush with structure and texture. PWS
