While this is a new estate, the brothers behind it are intrinsically intertwined with one of the most significant and historic producers in the Barolo commune, Fratelli Barale. That estate is now run by their uncle, Sergio but at one time the estate was jointly controlled by their father, Carlo, until his untimely passing when the boys were 5 and 7 years old. Since that moment, their uncle has held (and worked) their inheritance vineyards until such time as the boys came of age and decided what they wanted to do with them. As it happened both boys grew up with a passion for wine; one for viticulture (Diego) and the other for winemaking (Damiano)...a handy duo of talents when you have a collection of great sites waiting in the wings. And so was born the brilliant and very small estate of Diego and Damiano Barale. The brothers Diego & Damiano are men of opposites but together the create a beautiful symbiosis in the winery and their latest releases are simply some of the best value, best made wines being made in the Langhe hills today. We tired the full range a couple of years ago and even know thinking back can remember the furtive and smiling glances at each other when we tried the 2021 dolcetto. Molto bene!

There is so much appeal here with sultry blue fruits, black raspberry and waves of lifted sweet spices all ground to a fine powder and blended with dried violet fruit. Its open knit, beautifully fragrant and brimming with bright, plush, lip-smacking fruit. Its sumptuous and forward but it has so much energy and vibrancy. We honestly don't know why people aren't in love with this varietal. A little bit of fine-grained tannins gently makes it presence felt but just eases al that sweet fruit gently out the long and plush finish. Such a joy to drink.
