AYALA BLANC DE BLANC 2016

Style: Sparkling & Champagne

In 1882 Ayala was one of the 18 founder members of the Syndicate of the Grand Marques. Located in Ay, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims vineyards, this is very much a Pinot dominant house. It is a relatively small house, artisan in character and style but unquestionably a Grand Marque In 2005, Ayala was purchased by the Bollinger family. They produce exceptional completely dry champagne. Light, fresh and pleasant with a cushiony mousse. TOM STEVENSON

The 2016 Le Blanc de Blancs is one of the better wines I have tasted here of late. Exuberant and quite expressive, the 2016 soars with cents of lemon confit, marzipan and sweet spice, all in a forward, open-knit style that offers good near-term appeal. All this needs is a bit more focus in its bouquet, but is still a big step up from the past. Light tropical accents linger on the close. VINOUS
