Brothers Matt and Steve Harrop together make Amen Break. Matt may be a familiar name to you all with experience at Curly Flat, Shadowfax, Brokenwood and Grosset. His easy-going nature belies a profound winemaking talent that combines an innate understanding of his craft with equal parts accessibility and intellectualism in his wines. Steve -who still operates out of NZ - also has a couple of decades of vineyard development and wine marketing behind him and his ability to root out the right parcel at the right price is legendary.
There's certainly a bustle in the hedgerow here, with blackberry, black raspberry, leaf, dried roses and pencils. Medium-bodied, cool acidity, a distinctly 'mineral' feel, intense small berried dark fruit, graphite tannin, a little sundried tomato and raspberry pip, and a spicy and gently bitter amaro/sappy finish of excellent length.
