Well-made comfortable socks are the key to feeling good all-day. And Humphrey Law has been making such socks, entirely in Australia since 1947, when businessman Sidney Humphrey and textile engineer Albert Law joined together to make quality socks that provided value for money. Still a family company run by Albert’s children, and accredited by Ethical Clothing Australia, Humphrey Law continues to use the best quality yarns for their socks – fine merino wool, mercerised cotton, alpaca and bamboo – because socks are only as good as what they are made of. But having superior yarns is only half the story – having the technical expertise to knit with those yarns is vital and Humphrey Law’s knitting room houses the most modern and sophisticated equipment. That expertise also led to Humphrey Law’s development and trademarking of the Health Sock, knitted in such a way as to follow the natural contours of the leg and remove the need for tight elastic in the cuffs of the socks. Most Humphrey Law socks are now knitted this way. And socks are knitted in an environmentally sensitive way. Recently 357 solar panels were installed on the Humphrey Law factory roof and it can now be said that one sock of every pair produced is made using solar energy. Their new dyeing machine uses less water, less energy, less chemicals and produces less waste. Factory lighting is all LED, double glazing in the knitting room, additional factory insulation, and recycling and re-use programs, all contribute to reducing Humphrey Law’s environmental footprint. Socks are the only product that Humphrey Law makes – they truly are The Sock Specialists.
