During the event, we ducked behind the curtain to speak with Carol Mackie from M·A·C Cosmetics and Terri Robertson-Kirkwood from Aveda to get the lowdown on these iconic looks and to discover how they created them, step-by-step.

The Monochromatic Blue Eye by Carol Mackie of M·A·C Cosmetics
From aqua pastels to electric cobalt, blue eyeliner is back in business. As a hero makeup look of the ‘90s and ‘00s, this high-contrast eye makeup is quickly cementing its place in beauty as one of this season’s most-coveted looks. This time around, the blue-eyeliner look is less about sharp lines and full colouring, and instead, takes a more relaxed approach with playful swoops and accents of blue. To help you master this AW24 makeup look, we spoke with Carol Mackie of M·A·C Cosmetics to discover how to balance this bright trend without feeling blue.

How to do the Monochromatic Blue Eye:
“As with fashion – classic, cult-hero M·A·C products never go out of style and can be worn season to season,” says Carol. “Invest in luxe skin that lasts the distance, discovering colour that can be worn through winter to summer in a playful or pared-back way.”
Step 1: Hydrate, prep and prime your skin
Spritz the skin with Fix+ Magic Radiance, gently pushing the product into the skin to soften and prep for moisturiser. Follow with Hyper Real Skincanvas Balm, massaging into the skin to nourish and condition. Using the 170S Synthetic Rounded Slant Brush and a small pea-sized amount of M·A·C Studio Radiance Serum-Powered™ Foundation, start at the centre of the face and work outwards.
Step 2: Line the corner of your eyes in colour
Take the Colour Excess Gel Pencil Eye Liner in Perpetual Shock Blue and colour the outer corner and under the eye. We’re currently seeing lots of trends leaning towards this approach of washes of green and blue, which is a more playful gesture rather than a full-on liner.
Step 3: Play and mix with more colours
Using your eyeshadow brush, mix and experiment with the cool shades of the Connect In Colour Eyes X12 in shade Hi-Fi Colour. Simple sheer washes of the blue Terennial Wave and Gallerina eyeshadows from the palette create a playful, fresh carefree application of colour with the 217S Blending Brush. There’s no precise approach to this look, it’s all about playing with colours and seeing what pops.
Step 4: Choose a neutral lip to keep it simple
To balance the colour pop of the eye makeup, we went a little more neutral with the lips. The Thanks, It’s M·A·C! shade of the Lustreglass Lipstick range is a perfect neutral for this kind of look, as it’s not too overpowering in colour, but still quite fun.

The Textured Lob by Terri Robertson-Kirkwood from Aveda

To help you recreate this effortlessly chic hairstyle, we spoke with Terri to understand, step-by-step, how to recreate the textured lob.

How to do the Textured Lob:
A more finessed approach to hair will reemerge in 2024 while still celebrating hair’s natural texture, with trends following an incredibly polished and luxe look. With an emphasis on glossy and voluminous styles with bouncy luxe roller curls at the forefront; polished hairstyles will see an emergence once again on women and men.
Step 1: Shield your strands
On damp hair, apply Botanical Repair Strengthening Leave-In Treatment from roots to ends to add heat protection up to 230 degrees and to protect the hair from breakage. Aveda’s Botanical Repair Strengthening Leave-In Treatment Instantly detangles to help prevent breakage while rebuilding hair bonds deep within the hair’s cortex.
Step 2: Infuse hydration
Apply Nutriplenish Styling Treatment Foam from roots to ends and wrap dry with an Aveda Wooden Paddle Brush to smooth and elongate natural texture. The Aveda Wooden Paddle Brush features extended bristles for easy detangling and reducing stress on hair and scalp during blow-drying and styling. Step 3: Embrace the curvature
When hair is 90% dry, apply Nutriplenish Curl Gelee generously to the locks and curl the hair downward using a small round brush. Diffuse or air dry.
