Yangarra Old Vine Grenache 2019
PROFILE
Hand-picked, mechanically sorted. 50% whole berries. Remaining berries crushed. Cold soak for 5-6 days. Wild, open Fermentation. No pressings used. No fining, just filtration. The wine was kept on yeast lees in 100% older French oak. 14-21 days on skins, careful pump over twice a day. TASTING NOTES
For fans of grenache, Yangarra's Old Vine release is generally a wine to stock up on every year. Made from vines planted in 1946, it is not only fantastic value but also quite a serious wine. And the 2019 version is in one word breathtaking - I can't remember a better wine under this label. It is an elegant expression of grenache that already displays pinot noir like subtlety. Red currant, leather, spice and earthy aromas sit over a bed of older oak. In the mouth the wine is a story of supreme harmony and balance. Mid-weight fleshy fruits are underpinned by a core of polished tannins that then lead on to a long and silky finish. It is a cracking wine to enjoy now and over the next ten years which needs some serious food to do it justice - coq au vin all the way. FOOD PAIRING NOTESLighter cuisine like veal and fish, as well as Mediterranean dishes pair well.
