The vines in |Clos de Marzilly¿ were planted in 1985, Maxime started farming organically in 2018, including some biodynamic principles, it¿s all about protecting the biodiversity on their land. No tractor enters the vines, only the horse is allowed. Maxime has the outmost respect for the soil and the environment. They are currently in conversion to getting the organic and biodynamic certifications (|Ecocert¿ and |Demeter¿ labels) and should officially be certified by September 2022. 

Aside from the small parcel, |Clos de Marzilly¿, located just 100 steps away from the Estate, Maxime leases 4ha of vines around the village of Hermonville, which he vinifies separately and then blends them together. At the beginning of the property the vines are grown on a layer of sandy soil, above the chalky soil that is so famous to Champagne. While on top of the slope (100m apart), we will find a layer of clay above the chalky soil. There are only 39 different |Clos¿ in the whole region of Champagne spread amongst 12 different Maison de Champagne. The Estates combines the best of modernity and tradition refrigerated trucks are used during harvest to preserve the firmness of the grape skins which are then pressed into an old traditional 4000 kg Coquard restored with oak slats from the trees of the Estate.

The NV Extra Brut L.P.M. is a pure Pinot Meunier from the Massif de St Thierry, all vinified in oak and kept on fine lees for 11 months before tirage. The base is mostly 2019. The nose has an overtone of roasted nuts. The palate just lets itself fall into a fine bed of yeast, made elastic and bouncy by freshness. The result is a fresh, energetic wine on surprisingly light feet, with much agility bedded on soft, pliable yeast. Lovely and gastronomic. Disgorged December, 2022. ANNE KREBIEHL MW, Vinous
