Celebrate Golden Week in style with Shayne Tino’s new-season designer picks.
Shayne Tino knows style. And this season, he’s bringing it in spades. The Zimbabwe-born Australian designer launches his own brand: CATALYST (coming soon to David Jones). Having worked with storied international labels, such as Louis Vuitton and Loewe, and collaborated with Virgil Abloh, Tino delivers tailored looks alongside streetwear-inspired pieces for his first collection. Mr Jones gets the lowdown on new-season must-haves and what to wear when we can finally celebrate together again.
Mr Jones: What are you excited about wearing this season?
Shayne Tino: I’m excited to announce my new brand CATALYST is launching at David Jones, which I’ll be wearing on repeat this season. The label is a modern fusion of men’s tailoring and streetwear. My must-have pick from Collection 1 is the Love Crimes shirt.
What is your investment piece for the season?
I can’t go past the platform [high top] sneakers from Alexander McQueen. It’s an edgy, elevated take on a classic streetwear silhouette. You’ll see me paring them back with baggy trousers and monochrome looks.

What are you wearing to celebrate with friends and family (when we’re able to)?
I can’t wait to put on a party shirt from MSGM. Their fun colours and patterns are a perfect fit, bringing good energy to the celebrations. I’ll pare it back with a great pair of slacks – Alexander McQueen trousers are a favourite from this season.

Are there any trends you’re looking forward to trying this season?
The gothcore trend – dark tones, platforms etc. I don’t usually wear a lot of black, but this dark aesthetic is coming through in a huge way. I’ll be experimenting with this trend and can’t wait to wear heavy-soled boots, like this edgy pair from Versace.
